Mikhail Vrubel

Within the framework of the jubilee edition of Mikhail Lermontov’s works to commemorate the 50^th anniversary of poet’s death (1891) Vrubel performed 36 drawings, 20 of them entered the book; 11 are illustrations of “Demon.” Initially, the work belonged to the well-known industrialist and art promoter, Vrubel’s friend and patron Savva Mamontov, then - to the prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theater, People’s Artist of the RSFSR Yekaterina Geltser, from whom Professor Aram Abrahamyan - the founder of the Museum of Russian Art of Armenia - bought Vrubel’s masterpiece.
